The WilLiv Center was started after Marla Swanson, the founder and executive director, went through a divorce after twenty years of marriage.  It can be very frightening to go through the emotional heartbreak and financial burdens that so often accompany it. This experience led her to start helping other women in the same situation and she named her passion for her two children, William and Olivia.  Typically, these women make too much money to be eligible for services but not enough to take care of their children.  The ultimate goal of The WilLiv Center is to keep these families from falling into poverty. The WilLiv Center provides emotional support for these women and serves as a lighthouse for numerous calls for help, such as auto mechanics, handymen, etc.  Marla is at home in the judicial system.  Prior to leaving her career to raise her children, s he was employed by the State of Colorado as a probation officer in Jefferson County.  Ms. Swanson has accompanied several mothers to court and assisted them in the paperwork that accompanies the divorce process.

Our mission is to partner with women and children going through divorce, creating a strong foundaton of health and well being, to increase their capacity for strength and competence while confronting challenges that lie ahead.  Ultimatley, to emerge as vital, successful, and dynamic women with strong and vibrant children.

How can women join your organization?

The WilLiv Center was recently featured on Channel 9 news in Denver, CO.  The response from mothers needing help was staggering.  The WilLiv Center definitely meets an "unmet need."  We currently have over 70 mothers asking for help.  We are seeking women who want to help support this non-profit.  The WilLiv Center is a bridge over troubled water and we are devoted to being there as a hand up for these women and children.  Anyone who wants to get involved can call Marla Swanson at 303 232-2143 or email at marla@williv.org.  Part of our vision, is to have a "Pot of Gold" so that if a mother encounters an emergency and has no where to turn, we can help her on a limited basis.

How will you let your organization know about International Women's Day?

We have a phone tree in action right now.  We will also be sharing the word through our church, our community organizations, and social networking and media.
