Sarah

Sarah is a 21 year-old nursing student at the University of Delaware who started the patient-assistance non-profit organization Lori's Hands which she named after Lori LaFave, her mother who died in 2003 of breast cancer. As the director of Lori's Hands, Sarah orchestrates a network of volunteers who complete everday tasks such as home and lawn maintenance, transport to and from medical appointments and grocery shopping for people with chronic diseases. The first branch of Lori's Hands services Newark, Delaware and the surrounding communities; Sarah is in the process of making contacts in the medical, academic and media communities and of gaining publicity for her organization in hopes of opening new chapters in other university communities. She was recently listed as one of USA Today's 100 "Holiday Heroes" and has grown Lori's Hands to include more than a hundred volunteers. Following graduation, Sarah will be moving to Washington, DC with two friends, Liz McCord and Liz Bonomo, to continue her work with the organization in the new locale.
