She has worked tirelessly for most of her life for the children and women of Oklahoma. The first part of her life was with the Department of Human Services. She retired from the Child Welfare Division after 31 years. She also served on the Tulsa Public Schools School Board for 16 years serving as President for two years. Children have always been of utmost importance to her, although she never had any of her own.
Judy was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for District 73 in the 49th Legislature for 2002-2004. She was then elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2004 and is serving her final year as the Legislative Session opens Feb. 2011.
Judy was diagnosed with breast cancer in August, 2006. She started Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the State Capitol in 2008, which continues annually. The purpose of this event is to educate our state representatives and senators of the growing need for breast cancer services and support in the state of Oklahoma. She works to be sure that women in Oklahoma, insured or uninsured can receive mammograms and treatment if needed. She continues to work for the children and women within her district as well as the entire state.
I can think of no greater deserving women within our state to receive an “International Women’s Day Oustanding Service Award”.
