In the School of Science, 92% of the women faculty participated and the following findings can be reported. Since the 1999 report, the number of women faculty in the School of Science has almost doubled, with women faculty in multiple senior administrative positions. The 1999 and 2002 reports showed that women faculty members at MIT felt professionally marginalized — through access to fewer resources and exclusion from departmental decision-making.

The number of women in medical school does not equate with the number of women in higher academic positions, such as deans of medical schools or heads of departments. For those women who wish to climb the academic ladder, there are many obstacles along the way, including the lack of female mentors.

The U.S. Supreme Court will litigate one of the largest job discrimination cases in American history, involving sexism claims against retail giant Wal-Mart from more than a million of its female employees. Betty Dukes, the lead plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit, discusses the disadvantages some women may have faced. The Supreme Court is set to begin hearing arguments in a Walmart gender discrimination case involving hundreds of thousands of female employees, current and former, regarding pay and promotions since 1998.

One of the prickliest and most uncomfortable issues that affect women is their safety. Take for instance Dar es Salaam's Keko, a largely unplanned residential area, notorious for petty crime activities that greatly effect on everyday lives of women. Many poor women in Keko eke out their living from selling foodstuff in stalls lining streets or at the congested area's market, if not toiling in the many factories surrounding Keko.

At Women’s Feature Service, journalists write about women’s lives. By gathering and providing access to these stories about women’s lives, Women’s Feature Service (WFS) seeks to create “space” for women’s voices and experiences in mainstream media, where such topics don’t usually receive this same kind of attention.

Cori Schumacher, 33, was born into surfing. Her parents, Jeannette and Craig, met in the ocean in Newport Beach, Calif., and her mother, then a professional shortboarder, rode waves until she was eight months pregnant. On weekends, they would pack their truck full of surfboards and head from San Diego to Mexico to camp on the beach. Schumacher knew she would become a professional surfer when she was 12. Schumacher, who in 2008 wed her longtime partner, Maria Cerda, has a history of advocacy, especially for women.

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said that equal pay for women still remains a top priority for the president. In light of being sensitive to our budget constraints, the president has said that we need to make some tough choices. Jarrett said that they are working very closely with the state and local government to make sure that as they tighten their belts, they are doing it in a way that is sensitive to those who are most vulnerable.

Women are used to being told how good they are and being given what they want without asking. In general, if they can't get what they want they will find someone friendly to intervene on their behalf. Men on the other hand have to fight for what they get. Men are expected to achieve on their merits, even if merit means playing the corporate game.

On International Women's Day, attendees enjoyed a concert celebration that featured musical guests India.Arie, Michael Franti, Sarah Darling and Crystal Bowersox. The next day, everyone took part in an engaging program that included keynote addresses, educational sessions to discuss issues affecting global poverty and much more. On the last day of the conference, advocates took on Capitol Hill to meet their elected officials and ask them to do their part in helping empower millions of girls and women create positive change in their lives and communities.

Toronto's celebration of the 100th Anniversary International Women's Day was through a Webinar which was hosted by Julia Hidy. Julia Hidy, is an author for EnergyforYourLife.com: The Essential Guide, and she also gave a mini-workshop on, “More Energy for Your Everyday Life.” Julia Hidy also hosted an International Women's Day event and author reading in 1998 at Indigo Books, Toronto. Julia Hidy said, "I wanted the 100th anniversary event to be memorable and virtual so many people could access it - either during the event or after”.

The centenary of International Women’s Day was a crucial opportunity to raise awareness of inequality and reinvigorate public demand for equality and positive change. By putting their rights at the heart of the work they do, millions of women are gaining power over their lives and overcoming poverty and suffering. Governments must act now  and act together to help those already facing the crisis, to avert another global crisis and to help end hunger for the almost 1 billion people who go to bed hungry every day.

Parwati Bai is a Lady Health Worker (LHW) in the village. Her house is exceptionally clean. The district, incidentally, has a majority of Hindus as its population. Muslims and Hindus co-exist peacefully in this region. Parwati proudly shows the tiny clean room that serves as a health center in her house. It has a small steel trunk which stores basic medicines that can help bring down a fever, help rehydrate a dehydrated child or capsules that give necessary folic acid to a pregnant woman to avoid anemia.

This year, the 60-year old UNHCR is marking the anniversaries of the 1951 UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1951 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. As part of the commemorations, UNHCR has been holding a series of regional dialogs on women and girls in cooperation with the Center for Refugee Research in Sydney, Australia.

In countries like Russia, China, Cuba, Ukraine, Moldiva and Kazakhstan, International Women's Day is an official holiday. In 2011, women (and some men) in over 100 countries celebrated International Women's Day. In Mexico City, a woman wore a mask while taking part in a protest and a woman pretended to be gagged while taking part in a protest during International Women's Day March 08, 2011.

We were 25 participants in a great lounge in Montreal. The evening started with a wonderful voice, Anick Leonard, who decided a few minutes before to sing accapella, Whitney Houston's song: One moment in time. It was phenomenal. After, we presented Win's organization and their purpose and playing also the nice ''This is Our Time'' video and song. Vanessa Simpkins, the law of attraction coach, spoke about how she went from bankrupt to $900 a day selling mops! After this, we honored our two Outstanding service Awards to Marie-Eve and Marylin Bali.

I was honored to be able to volunteer at the Registration Desk. I was able to meet the fabulous women who attended the event first hand. I also loved working with the beautiful women along side. What a group of accomplished women. What a fabulous event! Out of the event I got a feeling of LOVE among all the attendees. What a special two day event with Paula Fellingham and all the inspirational speakers. They were all amazing. I got a real feeling of WOMEN and what they can accomplish. I also got a lot out of attending the FANTASTIC Dinner on Monday evening.

Sister Seeta who is the National coordinator of Brahma Kumaris in Rwanda introduced the event of the day at the Brahma Kumaris. Over 100 professional men and women attended the program.

On 6th March, 2011, the Centre of Spiritual Development, Moscow, Russia, held a program “All Colors of Happiness” for 150 guests. At the time, when circumstances try to do everything to bring us sorrow, we decided to talk about happiness. Not that thoughtless and superficial happiness. Remember, when we overcame difficult situation and remain stable, we were happy. We felt happiness when we helped to our friends or just strangers and returned smiles to their faces. Happiness and lightness filled our hearts when we could forgive, put full stop on the past and start afresh.

Indian companies are now adopting work-from-home and flexible working hour policies to provide an ideal working atmosphere for women. There are several women at powerful positions. They balance both work and home very well. Murugavel Janakiraman, founder and CEO of Bharatmatrimony.com said that his organization provides benefits to pregnant women by allowing them to have a three-month flexi-hour working facility in addition to maternity leave.

As the international feminist movement began to gain momentum during the 1970s, the General Assembly declared 1975 as the International Women's Year and organized the first World Conference on Women, held in Mexico City. The fundamental transformation that took place in Beijing was the recognition of the need to shift the focus from women to the comcept of gender, recognizing that the entire structure of society and all relations between men and women within it had to be re-evaluated.

International Women's Day was honored the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19. More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination. Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike. For decades, IWD has grown from strength to strength annually.

International Women's Day has taken on a broader meaning for women all over the world. With growing international women's movement sustained by four United Nations women's conferences, the day now signifies a time to build support for women's rights and equality in a number of areas including education, economics and politics. Due to the poor state of the economy and the “get-rich-quick syndrome” in the country enabled by high rate of corrupt tendencies that are now the bane of society.
